Unit 4: Creative Short Fiction

Contemporary Short Stories
In this unit, you will be writing your own creative short story.

  • Remember that all stories have plot, setting, and characters. In other words, something has to happen, it has to happen somewhere and sometime, and it has to happen to someone. Be sure your story has all three.
  • Think about the stories you reviewed or have read in the past. For the good ones, what made them good? How can you learn from those as you write your own story?
  • Everyone has some good stories in them. It's time to write yours!

Guidelines

  • Must be fiction (made up). Your story can be about anything (school appropriate, naturally) and it must be fictional.
  • Stories must be original. As with all writing, they must be your own stories. No copying other’s work.
  • Length: 4 to 10 pages long. That means 4 pages minimum, 10 pages maximum (per individual request length is negotiable).
